Record breaking voter turnout, the failing economy, and the overall need for change — many things contributed to Barack Obama’s win. But London rapper Dizzee Rascal claims something else is behind the Democrat’s victory.
“I don’t think he could have won it without hip-hop,” he told BBC program Newsnight [via NME.com]. “Hip-hop is what encouraged the youth to get involved in voting and making the place better. And he’s the first president to embrace it.”
And apparently Rascal has a few political aspirations himself. “That’s a very good idea [to run for Prime Minister],” he responded to interviewer Jeremy Paxman. “I might have to do that one day. Dizzee Rascal for Prime Minister, yeah!”
