Sebastien Tellier, ‘Sexuality’ (Record Makers)

Bolstering his eclectic, avant-pop provocations with cinematic compositional prowess, electronic music’s own Serge Gainsbourg designs a neo-R&B concept album about sex. Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo helps Tellier create his most song-oriented disc yet, accentuating the digital sensuality of those trademark Daft synths (“Fingers of Steel”), but dialing down the robot beats to suit his collaborator’s whispery multilingual whimper. Despite its breezy Eurovision hit “Divine,” Sexuality is beautifully, sadly French: Even the obligatory orgasmic disco moans seem melancholy.
