Oasis’ Noel Gallagher on Amy Winehouse: “She’s Wiped Out”

Jay-Z, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, and many more — whether it’s words of praise or scathing criticism, Oasis’ Noel Gallagher has never shied away from spouting his opinion on other musicians. Now the notoriously loudmouthed singer-songwriter can add another to the list: Amy Winehouse, who he said is “wiped out” by fame.

“For some people that level of fame can hit you really fuckin’ hard. I’m not having a go at her, but the likes of Amy Winehouse have been wiped out by that,” he told Time Out [via].

Gallagher stressed that only certain personalities could handle success on such a large scale — and naturally, he’s one of them. “I’m not embarrassed by wealth or fame or stardom. It’s what I was born to do,” he stated.

“Whether people would care to admit it or not, that’s fame that’s done that. Sometimes people think they’re not worthy of it, so they build a shell around themselves which cannot be penetrated.”

Gallagher, who was recently “wiped out” himself when he was attacked onstage by a fan, has since recovered from the scuffle and is set to return to the U.S. in support of Oasis’ seventh album, Dig Out Your Soul.
