New Video: Panic at the Disco, “That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)”

“Things have changed for me!” Panic at the Disco harmonize in the new music video for “That Green Gentlemen (Things Have Changed).” And they certainly have, notably with the quartet’s latest album, the Spin praised set Pretty. Odd., which merged from their teenybopper, emo upbringings towards ’60s-era rockers. But the quartet’s theatrical imaginations (as seen in their ornate stage decorations and beyond) thankfully haven’t budged, as epitomized in this fantastic new Lewis Carroll-esque treatment.

The video opens — quite literally — with the boys leaping from a Russian Matryoshka nesting doll, before falling into a lush, storybook alternate-reality, where they eventually turn into dolls themselves, open, and free small children — a spitting image of each respective member. Trippy! With an undertone of rebirth (hence the reoccurring doll), the tune and treatment go hand-in-hand as catchy guitars and Beatles-like harmonies take center stage. Sonic change aside (albeit a positive one), we’re glad their melodramatic, colorful imaginations remain intact.
