Arcade Fire, Superchunk Play Obama Rallies; SXSW 2009 Dates Unveiled

The Arcade Fire

As the 2008 presidential election heats up, so does the musical support: Merge artists Arcade Fire (yes, frontman Win Butler was born in Texas) and indie rock mainstays Superchuck will team up for a pair of gigs in support of democratic candidate Barack Obama. The shows, slated for Obama rallies May 1 at Greensboro, NC’s Coliseum Complex Pavilion Parking Lot, and May 2 at Carrboro, NC’s Town Commons, will preface the state’s democratic primary by a mere four days.

While most SXSW revelers are still recovering from the Tex-Mex and booze-addled marathon festival’s 2008 installment, officials on the other hand, can’t wait to get the ball rolling in 2009, and have even set the date: March 7-16. Mark your calendars.

As if the lineup for Seattle’s 38th annual Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival wasn’t enough already, Xavier Rudd, Anti-Flag, Brother Ali, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and local rocker Ian Moore have been added to bill for the event, slated to hit the Emerald City’s center Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1.

It appears residents of the U.S. may receive that gratis can of Dr. Pepper after all; Guns N’ Roses are reportedly “in negotiations” to release their decade-in-the-making opus Chinese Democracy. [Via]
