News Roundup: SXSW, Black Keys, Eminem, Blitzen Trapper

Austin, TX’s SXSW lineup has been slowly but surely building its way toward musical bliss; R.E.M. are in, and so are the Breeders. But today delivers a few more gems: Blitzen Trapper, the Black Crowes, the Black Keys, UGK rapper Bun, MGMT, My Brightest Diamond, the Raveonettes, DeVotchKa, Vampire Weekend, Foreign Born, Robyn, Fleet Foxes and the Von Bondies will all head to the Lone Star State’s capital. Think of the possibilities: Danger Keys, Black Danger, Black Mouse, etc. Though the Black Keys didn’t adopt a Danger Mouse mash up moniker, kinda like this rocker, the duo tapped the producer for Attack & Release,their fifth album due April 1 via Nonesuch. Lately Eminem,a.k.a. Slim Shady, has been staying out the public eye, and avoidingrun ins with his on-again-off-again-on-again-off-again baby’s mama,Kim. So, what’s he been up to, you ask? Well, according to TMZ.com,he’s been neglecting his health, and was hospitalized over the holidayfor a serious heart condition and severe pneumonia. Also, it appears,Mr. Mather’s has found a new hobby: competitive double-stuff Oreoeating, resulting in what “sources” cite as his newfound 200-plusweight.

Portland’s Blitzen Trapper will embark on their first headlining tour of the U.S. Feb. 22 in Seattle, in support of third album Wild Mountain Nation.The outing will hit cities nationwide with an assortment ofco-conspirators, including Fleet Foxes and Grand Archives, and stopthrough SXSW, too. Extra treat: Blitzen Trapper, a recent addition tothe Sub Pop roster, will release a new LP in 2008.
