While his name might have seemed unfamiliar to many Voodoo patrons, we certainly knew who Jason Isbell was. As a member of the Drive-By Truckers, Isbell helped Spin ring in our 20th anniversary in 2005, and, more recently, he was featured as a SPIN.com Artist of the Day on the heels of his solo debut, Sirens of the Ditch. Just before taking the stage at Voodoo — where he spiced up his set with a cover of Talking Heads’ classic, “Psychokiller — we met up with Jason backstage to talk about music in the Big Easy and to find out if he’d ever experienced a tinge of the occult in his life.
