Las Vegas seems like a proper match for the wild cabaret stylings of Gogol Bordello. After all, Sin City caters to the eccentric and flamboyant, thus opening day got off to a riotous and fitting start courtesy of the gypsy punker’s wild rock’n’roll ways. No stranger to 2007’s festival circuit having already stormed stages at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Bumbershoot, Gogol Bordello’s now refined set highlighted tunes from their latest LP, Super Taranta!, as frontman Eugene Hutz and his crew of merry pranksters engaged in an excess of onstage antics. After the band’s set, and donning full stage garb, the mustachioed Hutz took time out to speak with SPIN.com about his recent performance alongside Madonna at the London installment at this summer’s Live Earth, as well as divulge details on the band’s inexhaustible output and creative rigmarole.
