Scenes From a Movie

Who? Scenes From a Movie spawned forth from a pair of young guitarists tired of writing songs without vocals or a rhythm section. Luke Delpapa (guitar) and Jon Ewing (guitar) convinced Ewing’s ex-bandmate and then-bassist Tony Bush (vocals) to drop out of college to join the developing band. Drummer Jared Miller completed the rhythm section, and the band was complete with Adam Triplett taking over on bass (Bush readily admits he wasn’t very good). The band’s spot on this summer’s Warped Tour served well to promote Scene’s From a Movie’s ‘soundtrack for high school’-styled debut album, The Pulse, out now on One Big Spark.

What’s the Deal? The Pulse ultimately serves as a mash-up of modern day melodic rock styles — ultra-snappy “Just Ask Us” opens the album like Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump fronting the Alkaline Trio. The guys tweak the style just enough to keep things lively, as when “Save You” bounds about on hard rock guitars with a synth pop breakdown garnish. Pop sensibility abounds with the slick Rick Springfield vibe of “IrukanDJi,” and “Hang Your Head” stands out as a driving three-minute rock track.

Fun Fact: Scenes From a Movie love the ’70s arena rock. “A lot of people wouldn’t know it, but we are huge Kenny Loggins and Journey fans. Journey for life!” Jon Ewing tells “These artists have the kind of songs that you just never get tired of. They are epic, fun, and will forever rock our van! I recommend “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey, and “Don’t Fight It,” a Kenny Loggins song featuring Steve Perry from Journey.”
