As we’ve come to understand over the past two years of festival mayhem, sometimes it’s more about the people you meet than the bands you see. Last month’s Rocklahoma fest — a hair metal extravaganza featured in the September issue of Spin (read the complete story here) — was no different. While covering the debauchery, our deputy editor, Steve Kandell, made two new friends along the way: John and Adam, two Long Islanders who turned a DUI arrest into a cross-country journey and the time of their lives.
“They never expected they’d stand out in the crowd at a metal show by looking precisely like kids who’d be in the crowd at a metal show,” Kandell wrote in the piece, “but they’re dealing with the attention nicely, trading photo ops for flashes of tit.”
We invited the pair over to Spin‘s NYC offices to reminisce about Rocklahoma. Watch the video here, and scroll down for some photographic highlights of their journey.
