Tour Updates: White Stripes, Rentals

Motor City rockers the White Stripes have been forced to reschedule a handful of performances on the band’s previously announced U.S. outing behind their sixth studio album, Icky Thump. According to a band website post, Jack and Meg White’s outing was derailed by “unforeseen touring issues” forcing the duo to “push back some of their early September dates.” Now, the new touring itinerary allocates nine dates, including stops in cities like Chicago, Salt Lake City, and Boise, originally slated for early Sept. to the end of the month or early Oct. Only one date, a Sept. 13 show in Albuquerque, has yet to be rescheduled.

In addition to the band’s summer residency, the Rentals have announced the Aug. 14 release of The Last Little Life EP — their first recorded material in eight years — and a lengthy supporting U.S. outing, spanning three months and nearly 50 gigs, CMJ.com reports. Kicking off with a performance in Bakersfield, CA June 26, the tour will then lead the Rentals — fronted founding/former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp — through outposts like Fresno, Las Vegas, and Reno before settling into the band’s July residency. From there, an ascent of the West Coast and jaunt across the nation’s midsection will preface an assault on middle America, targeting cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Detroit. Next, following a combing of the North East, the Rentals will head south, hit Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans, among others, slide into the Lone Star state for five gigs and wrap with a pair of appearances in California.
