Oasis, Killers, Razorlight Cover ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’

Oasis, the Killers, and Razorlight are among a host of bands covering tunes from the Beatles’ landmark experimental album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, BBC.com reports. The Fratellis, James Morrison, and Travis will also cover album tracks, all of which will be broadcast June 2 via BBC’s Radio 2 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the album’s release. In addition, the fresh sessions will be tracked by Geoff Emerick, the same audio engineer who recorded the original album at the renowned Abbey Road Studios, and he’ll be working on the same four-track recorder the Fab Four used back in 1967.

“This will be not only a unique radio event, but a very special musical moment,” Radio 2 Controller Lesley Douglas said. “The range and quality of artists involved ensure that this will be a fitting tribute to one of the great albums of all time.” Stateside listeners can stream the broadcast via bbc.co.uk.
