Kristoffer Ragnstam is more than just the latest product of the Swedish indie mill. He started out as a drummer, and after recording a rough EP from instruments he’d built and collected (but technically didn’t play) Ragnstam created enough buzz to pick up a U.S. deal and a proper backup band for his debut full-length Sweet Bills (out now on Bluhammock Music). One of the tracks from the recent release, “Breakfast by the Mattress,” pairs incomprehensible lyrics and uncontainable riffs for a dance rock achievement a la Scissor Sisters. In the video, the flashdancers sport leg warmers, bright spandex, and some bizarre choreography, while Ragnstam counters with a simple black hoodie and traditional frontman stance.
