The Bird and the Bee Got Buzz A-Plenty

With a name like the Bird and the Bee, the darling opening act for Lily Allen’s sold out gig couldn’t help but sing about love. Led by Inara George and Greg Kurstin, the stylish group played electro-laced indie pop, in the same vein as Psapp and Feist, with melodies as sweet as honey to mask the occasional stinging lyric. Turning in polished performances of “Again and Again” (MP3), “I Hate Camera,” “Fucking Boyfriend” and a cover of “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” the band blended girl group glam with the self-deprecating assertions commonly found in indie rock. “We’re so dorky up here,” bashfully admitted George, who later launching into a synchronized robot dance with her back-up singers.
