Bloc Party Arrive Stateside

The boys of Bloc Party might have been a long way from London, but they had no trouble rocking a packed Paramount Theater in Seattle, WA for the first stop on their U.S. tour. “It’s been a long time since we played your shores,” said lead singer and guitarist Kele Okereke before launching into a raucous rendition of “Hunting for Witches,” the first single off the band’s latest album, A Weekend in the City. Other standout tracks included deafening performances of “The Prayer” and “Song For Clay (Disappear Here),” but on fan favorite “She’s Hearing Voices,” Okereke leapt into the front row to sing his vocals atop hundreds of helping hands. And the fan support didn’t stop there. Midway through the show, Bloc Party paused while the crowd serenaded guitarist Russell Lissack with a surprisingly on-key version of “Happy Birthday.” ELI SCHWIMMER / PHOTOS BY ZOFIA GIL
