Lucha VaVoom Redefines Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day, the true romanticos of Los Angeles gathered downtown at the historic Mayan Theatre for the sold-out Lucha VaVoom’s Valentine’s Sextacular Mexican wrestling extravaganza. Both true Lucha Libre fans and first-time observers were captivated by the nonstop Sexo Y Violencia provided by hulking luchadores and buxom burlesque dancers. The Rudos — or bad guys — dominated the evening, winning three of four rounds against the Technicos.

But the playing-by-the-rules Technicos made a tiny comeback in the midget-wrestling round with their unstoppable team, led by flying Cupido and nimble transsexual Cassandro. The best was yet to come: the Super Estrella luchadore smackdown. El Chupacabra, Mysterioso, Chilango, and Blue Demon Jr. brought the crowd to its feet with a hailstorm of folding chairs and body slams — the perfect backdrop to a tequila-fueled, love-filled evening.
