Kelly Clarkson Recruits Punk Legend

2002 American Idol winner and hipster guilty pleasure Kelly Clarkson has enlisted the services of fIREHOSE and Minutemen founder Mike Watt to play bass on her forthcoming third studio album, MSNBC reports. “I ended up playing on six of the songs. I had no idea what it was going to be like, but it ended up being pretty interesting,” Watt told MSNBC. “I was really impressed how she sang her ass off. It was intense.” Produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks), Clarkson’s album features “all kinds of stuff like fuzz bass, fills, and solos,” Watt said.

Watt’s bass work will also appear on The Weirdness (March 20), the first album in 33 years from Iggy and the Stooges, with whom Watt will also tour.

Talk: Will Clarkson’s collaborations with Watt have the same crossover appeal as “Since You’ve Been Gone?” COMMENT
