David Byrne Announced as SXSW Interviewee

Officials for South by Southwest, the Austin, TX mega-music fest, have announced seminal new waver David Byrne will be an interviewee for this year’s event, taking place March 14-18. As a long-standing force in popular music, as well as the owner of record label Luaka Bop, Byrne will discuss the current state of recorded music and alternatives for artists in an age where growing digital technologies are swallowing their potentially profitable outlets. Also scheduled for interviews are musicians Gilberto Gil, Emmylou Harris, Ricki Lee Jones, Booker T, and music industry heavyweights Terry McBride and Joe Boyd. The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend will act as the SXSW Keynote speaker and kick off the festival, which will feature over 1000 acts that currently include the Stooges, Interpol, Lily Allen, Bloc Party, and Cold War Kids, among others.
