Gypsy Punk and Electric Funk

Last night, a near sold out Hollywood Palladium welcomed some very freaky and funky rock’n’roll. Primus came to town, with show openers Gogol Bordello, who not only warmed up the crowd and got them hot, but also later soaked them with water bottles. Clad in striped pants, belly-dancing jewelry, and an anti-Nazi eye patch, Hutz hurdled himself onto the shoulders of the bouncers, and very quickly won over tons of new fans. After a very long intermission, Les Claypool and Primus emerged from the dark, backed by a giant astronaut, and ripped into several funky jams. A bit miffed by fans hurling shoes, clothes, bottles and trash on stage while playing, Claypool had a practical suggestion: “If some next to you throws somthing, put your finger in their butt so they do not disrupt us again.” STORY AND PHOTOS BY TIM BRAMLETTE
