Queens of the Stone Age Launch Zune

“Hello we’re Megadeth,” smirked Josh Homme as he introduced his band at the official Microsoft Zune launch party at New York City’s the Box. But Homme was there to front Queens of the Stone Age, the first band to grace the new venue’s stage. QOTSA consummated the evening with “Do It Again” before launching into hits “No One Knows” and “In My Head.” After playing “Little Sister,” Homme and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen surprised audience members by breaking into a spontaneous bluesy guitar-picking jam, but it was their frenzied rendition of “Go With the Flow” that caused club co-owner Richard Kimmel to remark to SPIN.com, “These guys are killing.” And as pretty women in red suspenders passed out burgers and mimosas, Homme tipped his beer to bassist Alain Johannes in celebratory birthday cheers. “Give him gifts,” said Homme. “Just don’t give him V.D.” KATIE HEATH / PHOTOS BY JAY CHEN
