The second album from this Maryland indie-rock foursome comfortably seeps into your consciousness — it’s rich in melody and rife with dreamy natural/Biblical imagery (“Jesus will dance while we drink his wine”; “I’ll shed a feather for the Lord”). Michael Nau’s adolescent voice sweetly floats over occasional female backing vocals and sparse instrumentation (organ, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar). But beneath the tunes are deft, poetic meditations on Christianity that manage to be sincere and hopeful but never guileless. Imagine Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst if he ever found a moment of peace.
