Lotus Position

BUFFALO, NY: Jam collective Lotus brought the beat to Buffalo's the Icon.

Philadelphia jam collective Lotus brought their breaks and beats to Buffalo’s the Icon, playing an ethereal set that had hippies and hipsters alike gyrating and bobbing their heads. The band played an almost entirely instrumental set, much like those of the New Deal or Disco Biscuits. Dual drummers Steve Clemens and Chuck Morris wove intricate dance beats while bassist Jesse Miller alternated between funk lines and heavy techno drones. Luke Miller filled in much of the sound, moving between synths, samplers, and accompanying guitar. Lead guitarist Mike Rempel, with his myriad pedals and effects filters, shimmered and jammed above it all. EVAN PARKER PIERCE
