Kanye West Throws Fit, World Tries to Act Surprised

Kanye West has never met an awards show he didn’t think he could sweep, so it’s not much of a surprise that the somewhat immodest rapper threw a bit of a fit last night at the MTV Europe Music Awards when he failed to land the prize for Best Video. Storming the stage as Justice and Simian (“We Are Your Friends”) were presented with the award for which West was also nominated, the rapper unleashed a tirade full of expletives claiming he should have won Best Video for his clip “Touch the Sky,” because it “cost a million dollars. “Pamela Anderson was in it,” he added. “I was jumping across canyons. If I don’t win, the awards show loses credibility.” Never mind that West did win the Best Hip-Hop award earlier in the evening. Elsewhere in the show, host Justin Timberlake scored two awards, Red Hot Chili Peppers won Best Album, Muse won in the Best Alternative category, and Gnarls Barkley won Best Song for “Crazy.”

Talk: Should someone maybe tell West that “a million dollars” does not an award-winning video make? COMMENT
