Doherty Fined for Journo Kick

Pete Doherty was fined $1,400 today for assaulting a BBC journalist earlier this year. The Babyshambles frontman copped to kicking reporter Trudi Barber and knocking a microphone out of her hand before running away, following a court date where he pleaded guilty to seven drug charges, the AP reports. Initially, Doherty had pleaded innocent to the assault charge stemming from the March 23 incident, but the singer changed his plea to guilty after being shown footage of the incident. Doherty was ordered to pay an additional $475 in compensation and $380 in court costs, but said he would not pay the fine today as he only had 50 cents on him. He also called Barber a member of the “harassing scum of press,” a statement which prompted Justice Helen Skinner to reprimand him. “People in public life have a responsibility to behave and be a good role model to others,” she said. “Referring to the press as scum does no one any favors.”

Talk: Will married life with Kate Moss have any effect on Doherty’s outbursts?
