‘The Daily Show’ Turned 10

For their “Ten FU@#ing Years” anniversary, The Daily Show hosted a party at Irving Plaza with Superchunk, the Mountain Goats, and favorite correspondents past and present. The show’s resident expert John Hodgman prophesized the future, Ed Helms and Satanicide singer Devlin Mayhem rocked a metal-meets-bluegrass version of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” and breakout Brit John Oliver cheerfully skewed Rumsfeld, childhood dinners, and guys who play golf at midnight. Via video, Stephen Colbert rallied for LaRouche and Jon Stewart kicked out another NAMBLA joke. But the night’s best comedy came from Mountain Goats singer/songwriter John Darnielle, whose rapid and unblinking song summaries made zero sense but preceded eloquent performances of “Wild Sage,” “Dance Music,” and “This Year.” STACEY ANDERSON / PHOTOS BY ERIC NOWELS
