Adem, ‘Love and Other Planets’ (Domino)

This singer/songwriter’s second album combines subtle notions of folk and electronics, and the result is fleetingly pop-oriented music that sounds transmitted from a bedroom on Venus. Adem’s calm, sometimes scratchy voice holds it all together, though songs as simultaneously lulling and kinetic as “Launch Yourself” and “You and Moon” are well integrated and conceived from the ground up. Never succumbing to mere cleverness, Adem achieves a singularly intimate expansiveness.
