Universal Nabs ‘Bruno’

After a bidding war between Universal Pictures, Fox, and other film companies, Universal has won the rights to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat follow-up, Bruno. Universal is paying $42.5 million for the worldwide rights to the film, a price that includes the production budget of the film, according to Hollywood Reporter. Hollywood is reportedly buzzing about the price, since Borat won’t even be in wide release until Nov. 3 and because Fox scaled back its Friday (Oct. 27) opening to about 800 theaters. Bruno is set to center on Cohen’s Austrian gay fashionista character.
