Boston-bred indie rock upstarts Bon Savants have been garnering buzz with a residency at downtown NYC venue Pianos and a set during this summer’s Pool Parties concert series in Brooklyn, and now the band are slated to play CMJ’s Music Marathon just days before their debut album, Post-Rock Defends the Nation (out Nov. 7), drops. That release’s “What We Need” is a garage-y pop tune full of instrumental and lyrical swagger, as frontman Thom Moran (who also happens to be a rocket scientist) channels Jarvis Cocker to deliver lines like “With a bottle of gin and a manic pace / We’ve got 12 hours, let’s make it a race.”
