Yusuf Islam, aka Cat Stevens, to Release New Album This Fall

Yusuf Islam, the man who entertained millions as Cat Stevens, announced plans to release a pop album for the first time in nearly three decades. Islam will make his return to the “Wild World” with An Other Cup, a new studio album due in November via Atlantic. “I feel right about making music and singing about life in this fragile world again,” the singer said in a statement. Islam famously gave up a lucrative career as a pop star not long after converting to Islam in the late ’70s; he was given a copy of the Koran following a near-death experience in the Pacific Ocean and soon adopted a new faith and a new name, and didn’t speak of his recording career for years. But recently, Islam broke his silence, appearing on the VH1 show Behind the Music in 2000 to address his conversion to Islam and why he left superstardom behind for a more humble existence.
