Who? Austin, Texas’ Sound Team — Matt Oliver (vocals/guitar/piano), Bill Baird (bass), Michael Baird (Moog synthesizer), Sam Sanford (guitar), Gabe Pearlman (keys), Jordan R. Johns (drums) — released their Capitol debut, Movie Monster, yesterday.
What’s the Deal? You didn’t expect a band with a moniker like Sound Team to play stripped-down rock, did you? This sometimes jaunty, always experimental sextet makes good use of its Moog synthesizer, experimenting with all manner of noises, from insistent pop (“No More Birthdays”) to moody dance rock (“TV Torso”).
Fun Fact: Anyone who buys Movie Monster on iTunes can also snag the band’s 40-minute film, Surfing, shot in New York’s Times Square by bassist Bill Baird on a Super 8 camera. It features an original score by Baird.
Talk: Would you send the members of this Team up to bat or leave ‘em waiting in the dugout? COMMENT
