Ann Coulter vs. 9/11 Widows

Conservative syndicated columnist Ann Coulter appeared on NBC’s Today show yesterday to promote her new book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, in which she claims “self-obsessed” 9/11 widows have politicized their grief. Host Matt Lauer asked the sharp-tongued conservative to explain certain remarks in her book, including a striking statement about the 9/11 widows.

“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles, reveling in their status as celebrities, and talked about by grief-arazzis,” she said. “I have never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much.” Coulter defended her incendiary claims and remained unapologetic for them as the exchange between her and Lauer became visibly heated.

“So the 9-11 widows aren’t allowed to use events in their personal lives to make political points, but when Terri Schiavo has a feeding tube shoved down her throat we’re forced to look at her deformed face for a month on Fox to learn our lesson about euthanasia?” — Daniel, Gawker

“What an intelligent, beautiful woman! I agree with everything she says and I love her hair! You go girl! Tell it like it is! Death to Democrats and Queers! And Mexicans! Praise Baby Jesus and George Bush! Coulter/Cheney in 2008!!!” — Porkfista, YouTube

“Oh, and ‘these broads are millionaires’? How much has Coulter made off of the country’s emotional response to 9/11?” — Bearpaw, ThinkProgress.org

“Democrats are using people who are obvious victims (9/11 widows, Cindy Sheehan, etc) to make their arguments for them, rather than making them with logic and intelligence. Anne Coulter just has the fortitude to SAY these things.” — Webproze, Outside the Beltway

“This broad is CRAZY!” — MP, ThinkProgress.org
