Just a few months before CBGB, New York’s venerable punk venue, is set to shutter its doors for good, Sonic Youth will take the stage to kick off their summer tour.
On June 13, the band, who are set to release Rather Ripped on the same day, will celebrate the album’s launch with their first gig at CBGB since 1992, according to Billboard.com.
Sonic Youth will then travel across the country, making stops in Philadelphia, Austin, Seattle, and Los Angeles, as well as the Bonnaroo and Kuyahoga festivals, before finishing up on August 5 at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Tall Firs, Be Your Own Pet, and Awesome Color will provide tour support, while former Pavement bassist Mark Ibold will take the place of producer/multi-instrumentalist Jim O’Rourke in Sonic Youth.
Meanwhile, Modest Mouse have also made plans to hit the road to debut some of their own new material from the still-untitled follow-up to 2004’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News.
