Is MySpace Safe?

Two New York teens were arrested today after attempting to extort $150,000 from MySpace.com. Shaun Harrison, 18, and Saverio Mondelli, 19, of Long Island, hacked into the site, stole personal information from users, and threatened to reveal their hacking techniques to the public unless MySpace brass paid them off, according to reports.

When the pair arrived in Los Angeles today, allegedly to accept a bribe from MySpace, they were met by undercover officers posing as employees of the website, and were taken into custody. Both pleaded not guilty, were released on bail, and are due in court on June 5 to face two felony counts of illegal computer access and one count of sending a threatening letter for extortion. If convicted, they could face four years in prison.
