New Releases: April 4, 2006

Here’s our rundown of what’s new and noteworthy in record stores this week.

Flaming Lips, At War with the Mystics (Warner Bros.)
It’s been four years since Flaming Lips released their last album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, so it makes sense that they pulled out all the stops on this one. The highly-political At War With The Mystics takes aim at the president, pop stars like Gwen and Britney, and, of course terrorists. The special edition includes a bonus DVD.

Morrissey, Ringleader of the Tormentors (Attack/Sanctuary)
In the past few weeks, Morrissey has lived up to the title of his latest album, leading a one-man rampage against everything from the Arctic Monkeys to Canada. This week, he hopes you’ll still like him enough to buy his latest album, Ringleader of the Tormentors. Like the Lips, limited editions of Moz’s latest include a bonus DVD.

The Vines, Vision Valley (Capitol)
Soldiering on despite frontman Craig Nichols’ debilitating Asperger’s disease, the Vines release the follow-up to 2004’s Winning Days. After almost self-destructing, the band releases the album that almost never saw the light of day, featuring tracks like “Futuretarded” and “Fuck Yeh.”
