Stones Still Can’t Get Satisfaction

ABC edited out what they determined to be “offensive” lyrics during the Rolling Stones’ half-time performance at yesterday’s Super Bowl. According to the Associated Press, the blue lyrics in question were in the songs “Start Me Up,” and “Rough Justice.” In “Start Me Up,” the line that irked censors was “You, you make a dead man come,” while the offending lyric in “Rough Justice,” was “Once upon a time I was your little rooster/But am I just one of your cocks.”

The only song that avoided the editorial scissors was “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” ABC imposed a five-second delay during the Super Bowl broadcast to allow editing, ostensibly to avoid another wardrobe malfunction debacle like the one Janet Jackson experienced during half time two years ago. The only wardrobe malfunctioning this year involved repeated sightings of Mick Jagger’s aging navel.
