J Mascis Records With Side Project, Witch

J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr. are working on a new album together and will tour in support of it, but Mascis still somehow found time to record another album with his side project, Witch.

Along with longtime friend, Dave Sweetapple, Mascis formed a rock band with Kyle Thomas and Asa Irons of the New England avant-folk outfit, Feathers, and plans to release the self-titled album on March 7, according to Witch’s label, Tee Pee Records. Witch entered the studio with engineer John Agnello, who had previously worked with Dinosaur Jr., at the close of DInosaur Jr.’s reunion tour this past summer.

The heavy, 70s-rock-inspired album will feature former Dinosaur Jr. frontman, Mascis, making the move from the front of the stage to the back, as he settles in behind the drum kit.

No word yet on when Witch will tour behind their debut.
