Bloc Party, Sufjan Win at Plug Awards

The Plug Independent Music Awards announced its 2005 winners last night in a indie-star-studded ceremony hosted by comedian Aziz Ansari and featuring performances by Chad VanGaalen, Celebration, and the National. This year’s winners included Bloc Party for indie rock album of the year, Sufjan Stevens for overall album of the year, Bright Eyes for artist of the year, Coachella as music festival of the year, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah as 2005’s best new artist. The Decemberists’ “16 Military Wives,” directed by Aaron Stewart-Ahn, mastermind of Death Cab’s “Directions” project, won best video honors. Sleater-Kinney, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Arcade Fire, and M83 were also among the winners.
