Pedro the Lion Announces Split

The two man band known as Pedro the Lion is now a solo act: T.W. Walsh, who served as a jack-of-all-trades multi-instrumentalist for Pedro, has decided to leave the act to return to his former career in software engineering. In an official press release, Walsh said, “[Pedro the Lion frontman/songwriter] Dave [Bazan] and I are still buddies…I wish him the best, and I know that he’ll continue to thrive and grow as an artist on his own…I think his best work is still ahead of him.” T.W. is working on a new project called Soft Drugs and will release an album under that name later this year.

Bazan, who already records under his own name and as his side project, Headphones, has decided to drop the Pedro the Lion alterego for the time being. “Which name is worse?” Bazan ponders. “I don’t know, I think Pedro the Lion is worse. I might as well be myself for a little while.” Bazan is currently preparing material for a solo release on Jade Tree in early 2007. Meanwhile, Bazan will tour next month as part of the Undertow Orchestra, a semi-supergroup that includes Vic Chestutt, Mark Eitzel, and Will Johnson — all of whom are managed by a group called Undertow Music (hence the band’s name). The tour kicks off Feb. 8.
