Oh, Those Prolific Friedbergers

Those Friedberger sibs sure do love concept albums. After releasing Rehearsing My Choir, last fall’s Fiery Furnaces homage to his grandmother, Matt Friedberger is fixing to release a concept album of his own. According to Pitchforkmedia.com, Friedberger says Holy Ghost Language School is about, “a guy from Chicago [who] goes and starts a business school for English in Japan that operates by xenolalia, you know, to do the business transactions. So they get the Holy Ghost and start speaking in tongues to negotiate.” Along with the xenolalia, the English school, and the Holy Ghost, Friedberger is releasing another album along with his “story album.” The tentatively titled A Miserable Life for Nieces includes a song called “Motor Man” about a guy who runs the L train in Manhattan and Brooklyn. “It’s unfortunately got me singing all the time,” Matt says. “It’s not very aggressive, I would say. Actually, there’s a lot of guitar solos, I guess.” The two albums are set for release this summer. In the meantime Friedberger will be touring around the U.S. with the Furnaces; Deadboy and the Elephantmen support.
