Former Verve Frontman Inspired by Bird Flu

Being a rock star saves you from a lot of things: Sexual dry spells, doing your own laundry, being sober. But according to Richard Ashcroft, his vaunted status as a rock god will not save him from a possible bird flu pandemic. “I had my freak out nine months ago and thought about stockpiling food and everything,” Ashcroft told XFM radio, according to the website Playlouder.com. Ashcroft was so obsessed with the avian flu that it influenced his upcoming album, Keys to the World, which is out January 23 in the U.K. The first single, “Break the Night with Colour,” is out now.
