Strokes Video Director Lashes Out Against MTV

The director of the Strokes’ “Juicebox” video director is far from pleased with the excessively censored version of the Strokes’ video that MTV has been airing. Director Michael Palmieri has taken his name off the “Juicebox” project because of his extreme displeasure with edits that “caused the video’s narrative through-line to fall apart.”

“The unfortunate problem MTV had with censoring the video is…they were trying to censor an idea, which is really hard to do,” the director posted on his website. Palmieri’s online post goes on to describe the various parts of the “Juicebox” concept, including “old women and their fucked up intimate relations with pets because human beings just don’t cut the mustard.” Palmieri has posted a director’s cut of “Juicebox” on his website. Though there has been no official statement from the Strokes on the issue, Palmieri gives props to the band for having “fought tooth and nail to let me have” the director’s cut. The Strokes’ third album, First Impressions of Earth, hits stores Jan. 3.
