Robert Pollard Supports Solo Record with Tour

After more than twenty years with Guided by Voices, Robert Pollard is forging ahead on his own. His solo debut, From a Compound Eye, arrives Jan. 24 on Merge, and Pollard is launching a tour two days later in Athens, Georgia. He’ll be touring sporadically through April, hitting all the major U.S. cities at the leisurely pace befitting an elder statesman of indie rock. According to Billboard, Pollard is preparing another solo record for a late October release. The new record is tentatively titled Normal Happiness, and some of the songs set for that project will be featured in the upcoming Steven Soderbergh movie, Bubble. Earlier this year, GBV bassist Jim Greer released a written history of the band called Guided by Voices: A Brief History: Twenty-One Years of Hunting Accidents in the Forests of Rock and Roll, firmly cementing GBV’s place in rock history.
