Movie Night at Folsom: Walk the Line

Joaquin Phoenix will be on hand as Walk the Line, his Johnny Cash biopic, is screened to inmates Jan. 3 at Folsom State Prison, the site of Cash’s famous concert recording. The film prominently features the Folsom show, although the version on screen was shot on a set in Memphis. An organizer from the Folsom Prison Fellowship quoted in Variety hoped that Cash’s struggle through substance abuse and other life trauma might inspire today’s Folsom inmates to turn their own lives around. “John believed in the power of redemption and offered his unique gift to anyone who needed to find it within them, and in the process, he inspired millions,” Phoenix told Variety. Walk the Line is up for three Golden Globes, including Best Picture, Musical or Comedy.
