Franz Heads Back to Studio in ’06

Not content to rest on the laurels of their sophomore album, You Could Have It So Much Better, which debuted in the top ten, Franz Ferdinand is planning to go back into the studio next month. Frontman Alex Kapranos told MTV that the band already has fourteen new songs in the works. “Right now, there are five of them we’re playing during soundchecks, and there are about nine others that are a little less developed,” Kapranos said. “We’ve got time off in January, so [guitarist] Nick [McCarthy] and I are going to head into the studio to record some of them, too.” Kapranos added that the band is taking inspiration from an unlikely source: Over-the-top hip-hop. “I’ve been listening to a bit of Kanye West…That’s what some of the new stuff is sounding like,” he said. “But of course, it’s still us.” Franz Ferdinand play Barcelona and Madrid later this week.
