Frank Black and Kristen Hersh Pump Up the Volume

Who can forget the iconic moment in Say Anything when John Cusack raises that boom box playing Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” defiantly above his head and professes his undying love to Ione Skye? Now you can remember that moment, and several other cheesy/poignant moments from 8’0s teen flicks on American Laundromat’s new covers compilation, High School Reunion: A Tribute to Those Great ’80s Films. Folk singer-songwriter Lori McKenna covers “In Your Eyes,” while Frank Black reinvents Iggy Pop’s “Repo Man” from the movie Repo Man, and Kristen Hersh, formerly of Throwing Muses, covers the Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation,” which appeared in the Christian Slater classic Pump Up the Volume (which is damn hard to find on VHS). Matthew Sweet, the Dresden Dolls, and the Caulfield sisters are also featured on High School Reunion. The compilation will be available for presale from American Laundromat on November 15.
