Flowers for Bono

When Brandon Flowers saw U2 perform in 2000 when their tour stopped in his hometown of Las Vegas, he probably wouldn’t have believed anyone who told him he’d be up on stage with Bono and the crew a mere five years later. Flowers joined Bono at the MGM Grand this past weekend in Vegas to sing the U2 classic “In a Little While” with the band. A post on U2’s website reports that towards the beginning of the set, Bono cheekily referenced the Killers in the song “Beautiful Day,” inserting the lyric “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier,” from the Killers’ anthem, “All These Things That I’ve Done.” They dedicated the track to Joey Ramone. Bono spreads the duets around, though: R&B singer Mary J. Blige joined U2 for the song “One.” This is the third time she’s joined the boys from Dublin on this current world tour.

U2 is set to perform tonight in San Francisco with Damian Marley opening, and there’s no telling who will take the stage for this one. Maybe tonight it will be Sam Endicott of the Bravery and Queen Latifah.
