Flaming Lips to Fans: ‘Hold On’

After more than 20 years together, the Flaming Lips have almost completed work on their 12th full-length album. According to the Lips’ MySpace page, the first single from the new LP, At War with the Mystics, “You’ve Got to Hold On,” is available on the website www.them5.com. Frontman Wayne Coyne recently told XFM radio that the new album should be out in early 2006. “We’ve stumbled upon some nice production ideas and it seems like something’s shaping out,” Coyne said. The Lips are working with longtime producer Dave Fridmann, who also produced their 1999 breakthrough album The Soft Bulletin and has worked with such alt rock greats as Sleater-Kinney, the Delgados, and Weezer. The Flaming Lips will perform at the Claro Festival in Brazil later this month.
