DMX Sent to Riker’s

After a slew of parole violations and vehicular shenanigans, DMX was sentenced to 70 days in prison last Friday, Nov. 18. X was originally supposed to be sentenced on Thursday, but he showed up to court nearly three hours late claiming an asthma attack had prevented his promptness. X pled for mercy, telling the judge, “I’m still a person with kids at home and a wife…I am sorry. I was sick. I apologize.” The apology was to no avail: According to the Associated Press, judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt issued a bench warrant for his arrest, and DMX spent Thursday night at Riker’s Island. Prosecutor Gerard Brave came down hard on X, saying that the rapper deserved extra jail time because he “continues to put his own interests and his career ahead of the court.” Earlier this year, SPIN.com reported on DMX’s legal troubles which include charges of reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license (read more).
