For a man who used to wear so much spandex, Justin Hawkins has quite a sassy mouth: He told U.K. tabloid The Sun that Coldplay’s sad-eyed lead singer Chris Martin is a “diva.” Hawkins’ blasted Martin’s behavior at last year’s Band Aid recording sessions, saying “[Martin] just swanned in, stayed for about 20 minutes — and had his own VIP area. He obviously didn’t care. I got the sense he was just doing it to raise his profile.” Hawkins also doubted the authenticity of Martin’s charity efforts for the Make Trade Fair campaign, telling The Sun, “It’s all a bit cheap.” Maybe Justin is trying to distance himself from his own diva reputation: Apparently Hawkins won’t be wearing his famed catsuits anymore. “I’ve gone a bit pub rock,” he said. The Darkness’ sophomore album, One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back, is out November 29.
