Tony Award Shoe-In for Byrne, Fatboy?

It sounds like the set up to a bad joke, but we can’t make this up: Fatboy Slim (nee Norman Cook) and David Byrne are collaborating on a musical called Here Lies Love based on the life of Imelda Marcos. The former first lady of the Philippines, Marcos is best known for her ridiculously large shoe collection and her massive political corruption. The BBC reports that Byrne came up with the concept for the musical and then imported Cook to help him write the music; Cook was once the bass player for Brit-pop stalwarts, the Housemartins. Here Lies Love will focus on Marcos’ purported love for disco music and the nightlife, as she was a frequent visitor to Studio 54 in the ’70s. Here Lies Love will premiere next March at Australia’s Adelaide Festival of Arts.
